Loring Alley Celebrates Getting A New Life

The grand opening for the newly restored Loring Alley just off of Loring Park was held Tuesday night.  The celebration drew many from the neighborhood, as they applauded the improvements.

The 5600 square foot alley was brought "back to life" with new pavers, greenery and a general sprucing up. Father Joseph Gillespie blessed the alley, City Council Member Lisa Goodman and Loring Corners, Inc. President Joe Whitney cut the ceremonial ribbon.  Saxophonist Jimmy Wallace played from his old Loring Cafe perch and dancing from Four Seasons Dance Studio broke out in celebration.  The feast came prepared by Nick & Eddie's.

The alley serves as an entrance into the Loring Park restaurant area--Cafe Lurcat, Nick & Eddie's and Joe's Garage, as well as the Four Seasons Dance Studio. We're told Nick & Eddie's is planning to add customer seating in the alley space. The surrounding buildings were first constructed in 1900.

The project was made possible through a public/private partnership between Loring Corners, Inc. and the City of Minneapolis.
