Deadline Looms as Vikings' Metrodome Lease Expires | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
The Vikings' lease at the Metrodome is expiring and now lawmakers and Governor Mark Dayton have a serious deadline looming.
The Vikings would like a new stadium deal on land in Arden Hills. The team is also talking to the city of Minneapolis about several possible stadium sites, but the city prefers the current Metrodome location.
The Arden Hills plan would cost about 1-billion dollars with 400-million coming from the Vikings, 350-million from the state and the remaining 300-million from Ramsey County. The Minneapolis plan to rebuild at the current Metrodome site would cost somewhere between 800 and 900-million dollars.
But, right now, the Vikings are the only NFL team without a home and a team spokesman says the state legislature and Governor Dayton need to resolve this issue sooner, rather than later. The team will not speculate on moving to another city, but it is an option for the team, if the state does not approve a site and funding plan during the next legislative session which starts January 24th.
